Between what you hear on TV and read in the news, eating right can seem like a real challenge. But it doesn’t have to be. “Whether you want to slim down, lower your cholesterol or simply eat better, a registered dietitian [or registered dietitian nutritionist] can help you weed through the murky waters of nutrition misinformation and provide sound, easy-to-follow nutrition advice,” says Jennifer McDaniel, MS, RDN, spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Our Registered Dietitian’s at OCWMG are nutrition experts and are uniquely trained to help teach, mentor, and advise women on nutrition and over health. When you come to see your RD’s at OCWMG you will get more than just the general, “one-size-fits-all” nutrition information. They focus on learning your history, eating and exercise habits, and lifestyle to set personalized goals and tailor a nutrition plan to your individual needs. Whether for prenatal care, general health, or weight loss, our RD’s are the trust worthy guides towards safe, effective nutrition habits that will stick with you for the long haul.

Educational and Professional Requirements

Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, but only a registered dietitian (RD) or registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) has completed multiple layers of education and training established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Registered Dietitians (RD’s) have met the following criteria to earn the RD credential:

  • Completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree at a U.S. regionally accredited university or college and course work accredited or approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
  • Completed a CADE-accredited supervised practice program at a health-care facility, community agency, or a foodservice corporation or combined with undergraduate or graduate studies. Typically, a practice program, also known as a dietetic internship, will run six to 12 months in length.
  • Passed a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Completed continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration.
