Hoag Prenatal Virtual Support Group
The Hoag Prenatal virtual support group is designed for pregnant moms looking to connect & build community during pregnancy. This group is a safe space to discuss & process high risk pregnancy complications such as placental anomaly, genetic disorders, diabetes, high blood pressure, pregnant with multiples, mental health disorders & concerns, and more.
Hoag Postpartum Virtual Support Group
The Hoag postpartum virtual support group is designed for moms to connect and gain support in postpartum. This group will cover topics such as the unexpected feelings and mental health concerns that can arise following birth. Whether you are a first-time mom, or mom of 5 this group will provide support and resources to help you on your maternal wellness journey. -
OB Classes
Understanding Birth (On-Demand)
Welcome to Understanding Birth eClass, a unique online learning experience that provides comprehensive information you can trust as you prepare for your upcoming birth. In this class, you will learn all about the birth process and medical procedures through instructive video clips, animations, and interactive games. You will also get a sense of what labor is really like as you watch several birth stories. You will even have an opportunity to create your own birth plan!
Baby Care Basics (In-Person)
Presented by an OB Education, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) registered nurse. This class is designed to increase knowledge and build confidence in caring for your baby. Baby care topics will include newborn appearance and behaviors, when to call the doctor, safe sleep and much more.
This class should be completed in the 3rd trimester.
Breastfeeding Class (In-Person)
Presented by an OB Education, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) registered nurse, , this class teaches expectant mothers and their partners the basic skills for successful breastfeeding. Topics include newborn breastfeeding expectations, benefits for mother and baby, positioning and latch, boosting mother’s comfort and confidence, how to know your baby is getting enough and basic pumping and resources.
Mindfulness for Pregnant and New Moms (Virtual)
Join this virtual workshop to learn the tools of meditation, mindfulness and breathing exercises. Meditation and mindfulness practices help foster an inner shift from the struggles and stresses of our daily lives while pregnant or after delivering, to exploring calmness and peace from within. Please have a journal with you during this workshop.
Maternity Orientation Irvine (In Person)
Presented by an OB Education, International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) registered nurse. This in-person maternity orientation is designed to help expectant parents plan for their baby’s birth at Hoag Hospital Irvine. The orientation provides information about our facility, available resources before and after birth, and expectations for your hospital experience.
This does not include a physical tour of the hospital.
Baby Safety
Developed and taught by Hoag’s OB Education Registered Nurses, this class teaches expectant families basic CPR guidelines from the American Heart Association for the layperson. Topics include infant and child CPR with hands-on skill practice, infant and child choking, car seat regulations and safety, maintaining a safe home, safe sleep, and other safety measures to consider when bringing a baby home. This is not a certification class.
4th Trimester Class (Zoom)
The 4th Trimester Class, presented by Miriam Bustamante, LCSW, is a workshop designed to prepare couples for life with a baby. Couples will learn research-based strategies to help them be the best parenting team possible. This class, to be held on Zoom, will help you learn how to strengthen your relationship and foster healthy development for your baby. Couples will learn strategies to prepare them for the adjustment of baby’s arrival, resolve conflict and maintain their friendship and coupledom. This class is best taken in the third trimester but is open to families with newborn babies as well.
